5th Street
Walking around the 5th street, I saw numberless classic boutiques and
brand name fashion stores such as Tiffany & Co., Christian Dior, Gucci, Ermenegildo
Zegna and Versace. More over, there are some elegant women dressing up like movie
stars walking on the street. Which made me feel that I was running into
high-class-socialites accidentally.
6th Street
Just beside 5th Street, 6th
Street is a totally different story. The people walking here are more like you and
me compared with those elegant people on 5th Street. The stores on 6th
Street are affordable and there are many street peddlers selling various goods such as
watches, ties and toys. If you have plenty of time to shop alone this street, you
might find good bargains.
Broadway Street
Around the Broadway street, there are many theaters showing famous shows like The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Miss Saigon
and Les Miserables. Never, ever miss the excellent Broadway Shows if you have a chance to go to Manhattan. Even if
you have watched the video tapes of those shows, to see the shows in person will bring you
whole different experiences and feelings, believe me.
Empire
State Building
As the third highest building in the world, Empire State Building has countless
visitors invading from all over the world each day. It is known by some famous movies.
The night view at the observatory of Empire State Building was so unforgettable. I
would recommend that it's a must go.

Macy's
Macy's asserts that she is the biggest store in the world. It occupies four blocks
of streets. Since I am not a shopper, I only went there once for 10 minutes looking
for a washroom. ^_^
Location: 34th St. between 7th Ave. and Americas Ave.

New York
Public Library
New York Public Library is the most classic and beautiful library I have ever
seen. It is like a magnificent castle. I was surprised by the decorative statues along the
sidewalks and the huge wall paintings and arts inside of the library. This library has
more than 5 million volumes, including 21 specialized collections of American history,
art, periodicals and Slavic, Jewish and Oriental literature. I even found daily news
papers from Taiwan, China, Japan and Korea.

Location: 42nd street and Fifth Ave.
New York
Skyride
On the second floor of the Empire
State Building, there is the New York Skyride. Which is a very exciting ride showing
you all over the Manhattan landmarks. It will be cheaper if you buy a combination ticket
of observatory and New York Skyride.

Rockefeller
Center
Between The Channel Gardens and G.E. Building, the Lower Plaza is called Garden of Nations
because of the various flags around the plaza. During the summer time, there are coffee
tables at the square of the Garden of Nations. In the winter, it becomes an outdoor
skating rink.
Location: 5th Ave. to Ave.of the Americas (6th Ave.) & 48th to 51st
St.
St.
Patrick's Cathedral
This is the largest cathedral in New York. No admission is required. This building is so
delicate and beautiful especially at night.
Location: Fifth Ave. at 50th Street.

Times
Square
It is called "Times Square" because the New York Times Co. was founded there on
1905. Even though their office moved to 43rd street later on, people still used to
call it "Times Square". I have never seen so many huge advertising neon
boards lining up alone the streets. Those huge advertising boards, like Coca Cola, hang on
the walls, stand on the top of buildings, all over the places. That's very interesting.
tkts
tkts, a project of Theater Development Fund and a not for profit service organization,
offers day of performance discount tickets for theater, opera and dance. For example,
through Monday to Saturday, you can purchase evening tickets from 3 to 8 o'clock saving
25% to 50% at prices when the tickets are available. The availability and the
discount percentage of the tickets are shown on two electric boards in front of tkts
booths. I went there and bought a ticket of Cats at
the price of USD35 whose original price was USD70.

The
United Nations Headquarters
The United Nations Headquarters consists four buildings --- General Assembly
Building Secretariat Building, Conference Building and Hammarskjold Library.
There are guided tours during the whole day inside the Conference Building. During the
tour, the tour guide will explain the reasons for establishing the United Nations, their
spirits, the obligated missions. As well, the tour guide will show you the valuable
presents from their members and bring you to different conference rooms explaining the
functions of them. Beside English, other language guided tours are available. But the
frequency is much less then English tours.
The United Nations has their own independent operation systems separating from the United
States'. If you buy stamps in the postal office of United Nations, you can only use the
stamps within their postal outlets but anywhere else in the United States.
Location: on First Ave. between 42nd and 48th Streets along the East
River.
